God is Creator

Welcome to a new year, dear readers.  May 2009 bring you blessings, health and happiness.

Thank you also to all our friends and supporters.

The following verses simply remind us that God is the Creator.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him.

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Psalms 148:5 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

When God became man

(23) When God Became Man
"Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and didst set him over the works of thy hands."(Hebrews 2:7)

We cannot comprehend what it meant for the infinite Creator God to become finite man, even coming "in the likeness of sinful flesh" (Romans 8:3). Nevertheless, we can, and must, believe it, for "every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God" (1 John 4:3).
The Scriptures have given us a glimpse of the "emptying" that His incarnation required--the setting aside of certain outward aspects of His deity. He had been "so much better than the angels" (Hebrews 1:4), but He had to be "made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death" (Hebrews 2:9)--"put to death in the flesh" (1 Peter 3:18).

The eternal Word "was God" (John 1:1), but it was necessary that "the Word was made flesh" (John 1:14). "The world was made by Him" (John 1:10), but "the princes of this world . . . crucified the Lord of glory" (1 Corinthians 2:8).
He, "being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God" (Philippians 2:6). That is, He was not fearful of losing His deity and, therefore, did not have to cling to His divine nature and attributes as He became man. Thus, He "made himself of no reputation" (emptying Himself of the outward form of God), "and took upon him the form of a servant" (Philippians 2:7).

Yet that was only the beginning. "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him" (2 Corinthians 5:21). He suffered hell for us, that we might enjoy heaven with Him.
Because He was willing to be so humiliated, He will one day be crowned with glory and honor. "God also hath highly exalted Him, . . . that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord" (Philippians 2:9 - 11).

Our eternal bodies

(22) Our Eternal Bodies

"Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself." (Philippians 3:21)

Only those religions which believe in special creation--that is, orthodox Judaism, Islam, and Christianity--also believe in a bodily resurrection. Of the three creationist/resurrectionist religions, however, only the Christian faith acknowledges that the resurrection can be possible only when the Creator Himself becomes the atoning Savior, dying for sin and thereby defeating death
.
When Christ arose from the tomb, He could proclaim, "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore" (Revelation 1:18). His resurrection body was the same physical body that had been in the grave, able to be touched and even retaining its crucifixion scars. Nevertheless, it was different, a "spiritual" body (1 Corinthians 15:42-4), controlled by spiritual forces. Our present "natural" bodies are controlled by natural forces, but the resurrected Christ could move quickly from earth to heaven, and could pass through closed doors (John 20:17, 19, 26).

But our resurrection bodies will be like His some day, according to the "working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead" (Ephesians 1:19, 20). By that same "working," He is able to subdue all things, for He is the Creator of all things (Colossians 1:16). Our "vile" bodies will become "glorious" bodies, no longer subject to sickness and aging, or lusts and evil passions. "This corruptible shall have put on incorruption" (1 Corinthians 15:54).

"We know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is" (1 John 3:2). This is the blessed hope of the genuine Christian.

Resurrection

(21) The Resurrection of Christ

Excepts and adaptation from Chris Holmes (Program -  It’s a New Day)

The resurrection is fundamental to the faith of Christians.  Easter is the most important time of the Christian year.  Why?  A new history has begun for mankind with the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The resurrection of the Lord marked the beginning of a new age for the entire world.

Also, sin and death “shall be no more”.  This Easter is for Christian the holiest day of the year.  It’s the beginning of a new story for humanity.

This resurrection also represents a day of victory as well.  It is the destruction of sin and death.  As Christians, we can now live as victorious people.  The victory of God has been accomplished in respect to sin and death.  Even though we are still marred by sin and death down here, sin and death is on a leash.  The victory has been achieved (past) and we await its consummation (future).

The course of history has decisively changed because of the resurrection Jesus of Nazareth.  The resurrection of Christ has cosmic significance for all.  The resurrection of this one particular Jewish man means the cause of human history has been changed forever.  The world is a different place as a result of it.  This may not be evident to the non believers but the fact remains.  Sin and death have been defeated by this man.  That is “the good news”.

Faith is the posture of open hands – acknowledging that which is true.

Sin’s power is broken.  Death’s power is broken.  This is a past event.  It is done.
We do live with the consequences of sin and death but that is true only for a time.  The Christian is in Christ and the Christian will die in Christ.  Death is the last enemy but we die in Him who Is life.

Resurrection is not just an idea but Jesus did rise bodily from the death.
His resurrected body is capable to pass through walls.  He is not limited to our physical world.  “Thus He is, we shall be.”

(20) -7 steps to Eternal Life

7 steps to Eternal Life

  1. 1. It is impossible to be in the presence of God in a “sinful nature” when you die. It's simply impossible. The very Nature of God cannot partake with Sin. Impossible! His Essence/Being/Nature simply cannot. Impossible!

  2. 2. God needs to “clean” things up!  So He needs to get rid of “sin” somehow. You need to accept that something is wrong "in" and "with" you in your nature as well as everywhere around us in the world. Something is "fudged" up.

  3. Instead of judging us, God came as a man (Jesus of Nazareth) and he took upon himself the punishment (cleansing) of those who believe in His work on the cross.  For a moment, Scripture tells that Jesus “became sin” (2 Cor. 5:21) and was thus judged. (His abandonment on the Cross). So sin is out!

  4. It is imperative that you simply believe that Jesus took your punishment (sin). God requires FAITH... your heart... (Accessible to all and free to all... no excuse).

  5. You need a new “relationship” with God. (From "God" to "Father").  All you need to do is admit to God that you are sinful and you need His intervention.  Remember, salvation must come from outside of our natural order of things.  In other words, it must come from outside the human realm.  The solution is vertical (God), not horizontal (Man or Religion). All men need salvation.

  6. By faith in the work of Jesus on the cross, you will receive the Holy Spirit in your body, soul and spirit.  Henceforth, the Spirit will convince you, guide you in all things and give you enjoyment, power and peace.

  7. Be baptized.  That is the outward demonstration of your stand as a Christian and your proof of obedience as a Believer in Christ. A symbol of the death of the old nature and the resurrection into New Life. Jesus was baptized. (Exclusions apply here. Faith "saves" you, baptism brings you into the Kingdom the moment you are baptized. Eternal Life is not only for tomorrow...).

That is how you receive Eternal Life!

"Christ had no sin, but God made him become sin
so that in Christ we could become right with God."

(19) - The Better Hope

Better Hope

"For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God" (Hebrews 7:19).

Men and women have many false hopes in this world, one of which is that they can earn heaven by good works. Even though God's law is a perfect law, it can never make a person fit for heaven, because no one can keep the law perfectly. There is a better hope, however, and that hope is "the hope of salvation" (I Thessalonians 5:8) "which is Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27).

This "hope that is in you" (I Peter 3:15) is indeed a wonderful hope. In addition to the one in our text ("better"), there are three other adjectives in the New Testament relative to our Christian hope:

First, it is called a "good hope." "Now our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and God, even our Father . . . hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace" (II Thessalonians 2:16).

Next, it is a "blessed hope." "Denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:12,13).

Finally, it is a "lively |or living| hope." "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (I Peter 1:3).

It is true, of course, that our hope is centered on the eternal future, for "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable" (I Corinthians 15:19). Nevertheless, the proved resurrection of Christ makes it a good hope, a blessed hope, and a living hope.

Eternal Life(18) - Have a wonderful 2008

"May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed."
Psalm 20:4

Dear readers of www.OkChrist.com

We simply wish to express to you all our best wishes for 2008. We ask for blessings from above.

This year, our main change was to add a new Blog to our site and to deactivate the outdated Forum.

In 2008, we trust to complete the translation of our website in French. So far, approximately 20% of the work has been completed. It is a long arduous work and our time and resources are extremely limited. Nethertheless, we remain hopeful that we will be able to offer this site in the language of Molière.

I also want to take this occasion to express our warm appreciation to our Son Luc who is our main Webmaster and Photographer of our site. Well done Luc. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We encourage you to further support this work. Visit the Support Page on the top right of this page or click here: http://www.okchrist.com/support/suppost_e.html .

(17) - He Gave Himself He gave Himself.

Extract

"Who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father" (Galatians 1:4).

There can never be a greater gift than this. Our Lord Jesus Christ not only has given us forgiveness and salvation and all spiritual blessings, He gave Himself! The pure, glorious Son of God gave Himself, substituting Himself in our place to suffer the righteous judgment of God on our sins.

Six times this wonderful affirmation is found in God's Word. The first is in our text, assuring us that, when He gave Himself, He paid the price to deliver us from this present evil world into the eternal world to come. Then, in the next occurrence, this promise is made intensely personal. Christ "loved me, and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).

The gift Christ gave is more than the world could ever give.

Eternal Life(16) - If you have faith… you have eternal life!

Source: http://www.justtheword.net/id14.html

Mortal means death bound. Our body is mortal, but our spirit and soul are immortal.  We need to get a hold of that truth and to live our lives in the light of that fact. We will not perish because we have eternal, everlasting, life. The fear of death is gone.We are like our Father God, we have His immortal life nature.

”It is God who saved us and chose us to live a holy life. He did this not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan long before the world began--to show his love and kindness to us through Christ Jesus. 10 And now he has made all of this plain to us by the coming of Christ Jesus, our Savior, who broke the power of death and showed us the way to everlasting life through the Good News.”
2 Timothy 1:9-10

To us as believers, the death of our body is not the end, but rather a step into a fresh new beginning. Immortal life… that’s something to be thankful for!

(15) - Examining the 'Jesus Tomb' Evidence
By Jay Cost

(extracts)

Hoax?

I. Intro
In 1980 an ancient tomb was found in Talpiot, a Jerusalem neighborhood. It contained 10 ossuaries (bone boxes) dated roughly to the time of Jesus of Nazareth. One was inscribed "Jesus son of Joseph," two were inscribed with slightly different versions of "Mary," one with a slightly different version of "Joseph," one with "Matthew," and one with "Judah son of Jesus." The Cameron-sponsored Jesus Family Tomb proffers a specious claim based upon bad theory, bad statistics, and bad history.

II. Chemical Evidence?
It is a waste of time to test patinas known to have been from radically different environments than the "James" and Talpiot patinas. In addition, one cannot in a single trial (a) test the validity of a new methodology and (b) apply it. How do we know the method is valid? It is inappropriate to announce results like this to the general public, which lacks the expertise to evaluate the claim, without first having it thoroughly vetted by scholars and experts. i. The Talpiot tomb was discovered in 1980. Just last month, a photograph dated prior to 1980 emerged that clearly shows the "James" ossuary. ii. The earliest tradition regarding James indicates that he was buried near the Temple Mount, some distance from Talpiot.iii. The soil within the "James" ossuary does not correspond to the soil at Talpiot. Rather, it corresponds to an area that is consistent with the original tradition regarding the burial

III. Statistical Evidence?
Virtually everybody named "Jesus son of Joseph" is as good a candidate for this tomb as Jesus. And, for that matter, a strong majority would be a better candidate. For instance, more than 97% of all people named "Jesus son of Joseph" would be expected to have at least two women named Mary among 34 relatives. Can we actually derive a probability that this is Jesus' tomb? We can, if we consider the tomb in light of the historical record. It is relevant on two points.First, it seems highly unlikely that Jesus would be a candidate for burial in this tomb. This is the case for at least six reasons.

i. Few scholars - including those who think Jesus was not bodily resurrected - believe that he was buried at all. There is good reason for this. The earliest testimony indicates that the tomb was empty. Later testimony is consistent with this. This testimony further indicates that all parties - the Romans, the Jewish temple authority, the Christians - agreed that the body had gone missing.

ii. Even if we assume that Jesus was buried, it is exceedingly unlikely that he would be buried in or around Jerusalem. Everybody had an interest in finding his body. It would have been a prize "get" for early Christian opponents - who were of course centered in Jerusalem - to produce it. How did they miss it when it was so close by? One would expect the Jesus family tomb, if it did exist, to be either in the north (the family's first century A.D. home), or in the south (the family's ancestral home).

iii. This pictureof the exterior of the tomb shows that it is ornately decorated. This tomb is not secretive. It is not possible to bury a person outside, but the Jesus in this tomb comes close. Again - how could Jesus, the production of whose body would have saved certain authorities many headaches, not have been unearthed from this tomb prior to 1980?

iv. The ossuary in question is unadorned. It bears only chicken-scratch writing that simply says, "Jesus son of Joseph." Most scholars consider Jesus minimally to have been a teacher, probably a healer, with a devoted following. Would his followers have treated him so shabbily in his internment, considering how much care was taken to anoint the body? Meanwhile, other ossuaries found at Talpiot are well-adorned, with names not so carelessly scratched into decorated ossuaries.

v. The name on the ossuary, "Jesus son of Joseph," was not how followers addressed Jesus. As a matter of fact, this is what Jesus' opponents called him. Thus, I would assign a 1 in 1.4 million chance that this tomb belonged to Jesus. These odds are a little better than the odds that I will die in a tractor accident this year.

IV. Conclusion
Scientific method demands a careful, systematic weighing of all the evidence, for and against. The documentarians have not done this. This is how a freak accident becomes a sure thing. What they offer here is not science, but pseudo-science -- polemic dressed in scientific language. The game was rigged from the start.

(14) - We the "excellent"... His delight.

“To the saints that are on the earth, and to the excellent [thou hast said],  In them is all my delight.”

Psalm 16:3A+

This is a most striking verse.  It simply says that the believers of Christ the Son who are “on the earth” are considered, by God, in Heaven, as “the excellent”.   In the New Testament, a “Saint” is “a believer”.

Just stop and ponder on that for a moment.  (That is sort of an A+ if you are a Christian.  His “Delight”).

If you believe, this is who you are.

(13) - Stop being afraidStop being afraid...

I often wondered what Jesus Christ said the most often when he was on earth. This is a worthy question. Indeed, what did he repeat the most often? After some research, I was most surprised ! Since this "discovery", I often ask others to guess the answer to what Christ repeated the most often when He was on earth and everyone gives me a very similar response: "Love one another" or "Love your neighbor"...

Well, not even close. What Christ repeated the most often was: "do not fear..." or in modern terms: "stop being afraid...". This is most revealing and worth sharing. Indeed, what God repeated the most often when in a human body on earth was to encourage us to be free, to act boldly in life and simply to stop being afraid. This applies to everything in life...

Nothing is more liberating... and nothing contrasts Christ more with any Religion or Belief Systems. Indeed, He was God from heaven and everything else comes from earth (man). If you want to know more about the Son of God and His liberating Message and awesome Power, read about:
