Hello friends and supporters,

My name is Marie-Joëlle.  I am a 2nd year student in honor history and English at the University of Ottawa.

This past year, I have been active with the Ottawa’s campus ministry - Campus Crusade for Christ.  They are a worldwide interdenomi-national group for students like me, who want to share God’s message of love.  Through this ministry, I have had the privilege to meet other believers, share my faith through out-reach events; get involved in a Bible study, etc.  I know that I am blessed by this ministry and it has opened my mind to new idea’s and challenges.

This summer I will be going on is a mission’s project to Tanzania from May 3rd to June 17th 2006 with Campus Crusade.  Tanzania is a republic in southeastern Africa situated near Kenya and Uganda.  During my stay in Tanzania, I will be teamed up with other students, who, like me, have a desire to see God’s hand at work in this country. Once there, my daily ministry will involve sharing the gospel with students on campus in Dar es Salaam (the capital), training up future leaders in Christ, working in the area of discipleship, and organizing other outreach activities designed to impact the Tanzanian students. I will also be going to several different villages and towns all over the country to show the JESUS film to the people of Tanzania.  Moreover, by God’s grace, this project will allow me to deepen my relationship with God, expand my vision of the world, learn about mission fields, and trust in God to do his mighty work through me.

In order to make all this possible, I need the support of people like you who are willing to invest their time in praying for me, as well as helping me financially! The cost of the trip is $4,600 (C$) for each participant, so any support you can possibly give will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much.  You too can play a part in sharing God’s message of hope to the people of Africa with your help. I hope to hear from you very soon!!!

Hello dear friends,

I looked at the calendar today and noticed that I'm leaving for Africa in 60 days... in 2 months!

I should be getting my passport anytime now.

Also, I have started receiving money from supporters like yourself… Thank you so much.  I now have $680 so only $3,920 left to fundraise! So keep up the prayers and thank you for your support!

I am convinced that the Lord will provide…

As I was reading today I was encouraged by 1 John 5:14-15 and I hope it will encourage you also! God hears my prayers for this mission’s trip, he also hears yours…

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.  And if we know that he hears us whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him.” 1 John 5: 14-15 ( NIV)

Hi Everyone,

Guess what…I received my PASSEPORT this week!   Also, I found out the exact dates for my flights.   I leave for Ottawa on the May 3rd 2006, to go to Toronto Airport where the entire group of students all over Canada are to meet and fly away to Tanzania.  We are set to come back from Tanzania on June 17th 2006.

All week, I have been getting many emails from students who are also going on the trip with me to Tanzania.  It has been exciting to get to know and to hear about their stories as well as challenges in regards to the mission’s trip.  Please also pray for these students who are currently making preparations and fundraising for the trip.   There are about 30 students going to Tanzania this summer.  I can’t wait to actually meet them all… it sounds like we have an amazing group of people who love the Lord and have a passion for sharing the gospel!

Financially, I now have $1,055.  My goal is to get $1,500 by the end of this week.

By the way, the language in Tanzania is Swahili.  Here are some basic words for your interest.

  • Hello – Jambo
  • Goodbye - Kwa heri
  • How are you? – Habari yako?
  • Welcome – Karibu!
  • See you later – Tutaonana baadaye

Talk to you soon.

Marie-Joëlle

Jambo, (I trust you are well),

Habari yako?  (What’s with you?).

So here’s good news… I reached my financial goal for this week!  I can now send in my $1,500  in order to cover some of the fees for the trip.  That’s a blessing…

But the fight isn’t nearly over… I still have about 60% left to fundraise.

The Lord has been faithful, again.

This week is my busy appointment week.  I need to get my vaccination shots and even my dentist check-up.

Otherwise, there are not many changes except the fact that time is QUICKLY passing and soon (God willing), I’ll be in Africa ministering to people who have not yet heard about Jesus!  This is so cool.

Your help is appreciated. Please see the top of this section for the site addresses or/and the phone number to help.

God bless you and keep you.

Marie

Hi friends,

So here’s what’s been happening over the past week.

First of all, I wanted to say that I now have 50% of the money I need to go on the trip!  Isn’t that awesome?  God is providing!   Thank you to all the people who are supporting me and please keep on the good work.  God loves cheerful givers and he will bless you for your generosity.

Secondly, I went to the Doctor’s in order to get all my shots (5 in total) as well as the dentist.  Everything went well and I didn’t even faint (I am extremely scared of needles)!

Also, while doing some research online about the country of Tanzanian as well as the people and that country, I came across this website:

The University of Del el Salaam website : http://www.udsm.ac.tz/

Information about Tanzania:

Keep praying that God will strengthen my faith and prepare the hearts of the people I will be ministering too this summer,

Thanks,

Marie

Hello dear readers,

This week, I have important news to share with you.

I received an e-mail from the Canadian Campus ministry asking if I was willing to go help develop a Campus movement in Malawi with 15 other students from Canada.  After praying about the project, I agreed to go to help out in this needy country.

This means that I will be having orientation in Tanzania before departing for Lilongwe (Malawi) to develop a core group of leaders from one particular Campus for 3 weeks.

Then with my team, we will depart to Tanzania before returning to Canada.

Malawi is ranked as one of the least developed countries in the world, borders just south east of Tanzania has prominent physical feature which is 580 km long - Lake Nyasa.  With a population of 11 million, it is the most spiritually receptive Country in Central Africa.

This opportunity is quite exciting but it also means that I need to raise an extra $300 to cover the travel expenses to get from Tanzania to Malawi.   To ask for financial support is challenging to my faith, and I am slowly learning what it really means to “walk by faith” by relying on God.   I therefore encourage all of you to play a part in this ministry with your support!

Seize the day,

M-J

Bonjour,

I hope OKreaders are enjoying the little weekly comments as much as I like writing them.

This week is extra busy with my university exams so I’m going to give you a quick overview:

  1. Needs: $1,850
  2. 23 days left… the clock it ticking!
  3. I also need to surrender all my fears and doubts to the Lord.
  4. I’m EXCITED about this…

“…the Lord your God will bless you in all your work
and in everything you put your hand to.”

Deut. 15:10.

E-mail me with any questions or comments: mariejoellegauthier@hotmail.com

Have a great week,

Marie

Hello dear OkReaders,

Well, there are 15 days to go!  Things are starting to get busy…

Still looking to the Lord for financial support.

I finish school this week, which means that I get to go home and start packing for my trip!  This week, I will be going to the clinic to get my last vaccinations as well as malaria medication .

I am counting on the Lord to keep me safe and healthy while I am overseas.

Please pray for safety and health once I’m there as well as for the group who will be traveling with me!

I have attached a link where you can listen to song in Swahili.
http://www.christophertin.com/samples/BabaYetu.mp3

This is the language of the people I shall be witnessing to.  I encourage you to listen to it, its beautiful!   This song might even make you readers want to join me on my adventures in Africa…

Talk to you next week,

Marie

Hello everyone,

Well my days in Canada are now numbered!   In 5 days, I’ll be on a plane or maybe I should say 3 planes because I have 3 connections before getting to Tanzania.

I’m ready to go, all packed, vaccinated, passport in hand, tickets bought…  Thank God for all that.  Currently, I only need another $800 so your continued donations are most appreciated.  Every bit counts!

Subjects to pray for:

  1. To allow God to move in my life and in the lives of others;
  2. Spiritual blessing;
  3. Good Health;
  4. Safety;
  5. Unity for my group.

I don’t know if I will have access to the internet during my trip but if I do, I will be posting the experiences of my trip in order to share with you what God has been doing in Tanzania and Malawi.

God bless,

Marie-Joëlle
